点评:Located to the west of Armenia, near the village of Ohanavan close to kasagh river.
As usual according to Armenian church tradition, the monastery was founded in the fourth century by St Gregory the illuminator. A single nave church now attached to the northern wall of the main church is the earliest structure on the site where the building underwent reconstruction in the 6th and 17th centuries.
The main church was built in the 13th century, financed by a donation by Prince Vache Vachutian. It is a large domed church rectangular in plan and cruciform in shape, a typical Armenian design yet the decorations of eastern facade arranged in a vertical axis shows a Georgian influence, and furthermore there is an inscription on the northern wall stating it was erected during the reign of queen Tamar, the famous Georgian queen.
The gavit on the west was added soon after and again the monastery was fortified with walls and towers in the early 14th century.
The presence of khachkars is not doubtable, 3 khachkars can be found right at the door on the western facade.
