点评:Bosnia & Herzegovina was on our travel list since 2016 and the 8/9 days we spent in the country exceeded our expectations. We really had a wonderful time
We enjoyed Sarajevo a lot and quickly saw why it is sometimes referred to as the Jerusalem of Europe. We will miss the burek, ćevapi and Tufahije. We liked to joke that Bosnia is the child of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires and that’s why the food and desserts in particular are so good
Since we were there for a while and with the advice of the guides and locals we got to try other dishes like klepi, Đjulbastije, Bosanski lonac, sarma, Domaći pilav and Mućkalica. Armina also pointed out the best places to try bozo and salep
Since we had a large number of tours, we got a comprehensive overview of the country. Personal favorites were perhaps the 2 hiking trips to Sutjeska & Lukomir while our day trips to Jajce & Travnik and Višegrad were also a highlight. I imagine Mostar is everyone’s favorite and it is difficult to argue but we would both like to visit Počitelj again next time we are in the Herzegovina region
In terms of the tours, everything was well organized and coordinated. The guides on all the tours were friendly and knowledgeable, answering all questions in great detail. They made sure all guests enjoyed the experience and were always comfortable. Special thank you to Armina, who brought us some apples so we had something to eat on the walk to Lukomir. It was a pleasure to spend 2 days with her as she added a great detail of insight into the tours we did together (Jajce & Travnik and Višegrad)
In addition, we would like to thank Tarik and Ennis, our hiking guides for Sutjeska and Lukomir respectively
The walking tour with Emin created a vivid picture of the history of the city while also giving context and meaning to the various squares, streets and buildings. For the Fall of Yugoslavia & Siege tour, Eyub provided incredible insight into how Yugoslavia fell, what life was like during the siege and how we arrived at the situation today. He did not shy away from difficult questions and we enjoyed his company
Samir took us to Srebrenica. We were both initially skeptical about doing this tour as we thought it would be very sad. But we quickly realized that it is important to do it and were glad we did. We both had a pretty good idea about Srebrenica before visiting but Samir and the guide in the museum helped us learn some things we didn’t know, about the column (death march) for example
Emin took us to Mostar and he did an excellent job managing the group and making sure we were on time so we could experience everything. He provided detailed information and treated the group to Lasta biscuits at the end of the tour
Lastly, I want to thank Aiša, Medina & Ilma and anyone else who works in the front office coordinating the tours. Each day there were various tours going with fairly large groups but it was clear to us that you were all very organized and knew exactly who needed to be where
