Cradle Mountain is spectacular!

点评：We visited Cradle Mountain in mid-March 2026, arriving around 8:30am to make the most of the day. We completed the Dove Lake Circuit, continued on to Crater Lake, and then made our way through to Ronny’s Creek where we were lucky enough to spot wombats in their natural habitat. To see the wombats, plan to get to Ronny’s Creek between 3pm and 4pm as that’s when they’re usually out and about.
This park is truly spectacular, with exceptional natural beauty at every turn and an abundance of wildlife. The shuttle bus is a convenient way to get around, taking about 20 minutes from the Visitor Centre to Dove Lake with several stops along the way. Just be sure not to miss the last return service, or you’ll have a longer walk back!
Weather at Cradle Mountain can change quickly and dramatically, so it’s important to come prepared with layered clothing, including wet weather gear and suitable hiking footwear. As part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, conditions can vary greatly, even within the same day, so always check and monitor the forecast before and during your visit.
There is an entry fee for the park, as well as an additional cost for the shuttle bus. If you’re planning to visit multiple national parks in Tasmania, it’s worth purchasing a holiday pass, as you’ll only need to pay separately for the shuttle service at Cradle Mountain.
