Purple Island - Al Khor Island的点评
点评：We really enjoyed our visit to Purple Island and spent a little over an hour in the area. There is a nice boardwalk which leads to the island itself and this walkway is set above the mangroves and water in the area. There is one staircase down to the mangroves/sand and we would recommend bringing some water shoes if you plan on walking around that area because it would be a bit rough on the feet. Throughout the mangroves you can see small crabs, fish and some birds. We felt lucky to see a kingfisher and a heron in the area.
The boardwalk is about 300 m long and the island itself is about 500 m by 500 m. There is a beach area here and you can go in the water but it is a bit rocky and the water is shallow. You could bring your own chairs or blankets to the island and this would be pretty pleasant in the cooler months because there is limited shade. We brought some towels and water shoes with us in case we got the urge to walk around in the water but we decided we could see enough from the boardwalk and the island itself.
The drive to Purple Island took about an hour from Doha. The parking area has a well serviced and clean wash cart and the boardwalk is right there. It is free to visit this area but we would recommend bringing your own drinks, hand sanitizer, tissues and some snacks if you are coming out here because the services are limited. We believe families with young children, people looking for nature in Qatar or couples would enjoy this area.
A trip to Purple Island could be combined with seeing other attractions in Al Khor like the family park, Panda House, Al Bayt Stadium. During our day trip we drove up to the Fuwairit Kite Beach and Al Jassasiya Rock Art Site areas before returning to Doha. We would highly recommend coming out to this area with your own transport because it will likely be difficult to call a ride share out here. The roads getting out here are well maintained but the last kilometre is a dirt road and is a little bumpy.
