Misrepresentation, Dishonesty and NOT the Haida Ways of Being

点评：I waited decades to visit the Haida Nation. It was a lifelong dream. After I retired, I booked travel to Haida Gwaii but was unable to secure a tour to the Ninstints site where there were standing poles. In May 2025, I was told it was not available for my August arrival. As an alternative, I was offered the Skedans tour and accepted. I had to rearrange my ferry back and add another night’s stay at an additional cost of $200. The picture on their website associated with all 4 tours highlighting upright poles, only applied to Ninstints (attached). I was never informed otherwise. There was not one upright pole in the Skedans tour and I felt it had been misrepresented at great expense to me. We were left to glance at photos. I was crushingly disappointed.
The government initiated a free pass to all National Parks including Gwaii Hanaas where the Skedans tour was conducted. My substantial tour fee included the cost of the Parks admission. They failed to reduce the tour cost accordingly until I advised them of this fact. What of all the people that had paid these included fees when there wasn’t any?
I wrote to them of my disappointment hoping for this Haida Way of Being – Tll Yahda (Make it Right). But instead, they suggested I come again at great expense and do the Ninstints tour. More money for them, less value for me. I’ve already spent $1,500. All I can say is I will follow the Haida Way of Being - Gina Waadluxan Gud Ad Kwaagid (Everything Depends on Everything Else). Caveat Emptor!
