点评:This is a difficult experience to rate because parts of it were spectacular ( James and Glen, the two boat captains and the amazing meal they prepared for us on the beach); some of it was disappointing (the site and a 4 hour return in a boat on choppy water), and a very significant piece, our guide, was dreadful.
I visited Skedans about 30 years ago and it was a vastly different experience. We were group of 6, unknown to one another and we were the only people there. We walked the site with the watchman - a touching, soulful, often silent experience. This time, there were 4 boats pulled up on the beach, each with their own guide. More of a theme park experience than a sacred site. The poles and houses have deteriorated significantly since my last trip (think moss covered logs on the ground). Our guide brought no photos of the old sight or copies of Emily Carr's paintings which would have helped connect the present to the past. I am a big fan of guides. Over the years, they have enhanced my experiences immeasurably. Unfortunately, this was not one of those great experiences. Sue diminished my experience of the site because she wasn't prepared.. We learned almost nothing about the village of Skedans while we toured the site. She was unable to answer predictable questions - information that could be retrieved with a 10 minute google search. She never stopped talking so we were held captive on a small boat for 4 hours while she talked about herself, her beliefs and judgements. On the way back, she said that she needed to give her voice a break - that lasted less than 2 minutes.
This is an expensive experience and if you are passionate about it, and have the benefit of an inspiring, well-informed guide, it will probably be worth your time and money. If it's a cold, windy, foggy day, you are merely curious and you have a predisposition to sea sickness, I would advise against it,
