点评:We did the Upi Bay by traditional canoe ( pirogue ) and Natural pool tour with Neutomo Excursion. We booked our tour online, from Australia.
We were collected at our accomodation (Oure) at the set time ( unfortunately there was very limited English spoken by our driver ) and we had to fumble our way through. We were taken to Upi bay and given our lunch. in a carry bag. We nominated the "snack" option and this consisted of meat and salad rolls, water bottles and apples (enough for two people). Perhaps if we ordered a cooked lunch, things may have been a bit different.
When we arrived at Upi Bay, our driver pointed to a Pirogue about 50 meters offshore. Thankfully there were another couple on our bus, a French couple who spoke some English and they told us to wade out to the Pirogue. Im pretty short and the water never got deeper than my chest. However, we walked across reef ( very painful ) and had we known, I would have worn my reef shoes. We climbed onto the Pirogue and set off across Upi Bay.
Our Pirogue guide/driver ( Bernard ) did not speak English but was very friendly.
The ride across Upi Bay (via Pirogue) is nothing short of breathtaking. The endless blue sky, the turquoise water and the serenity of sailing. There was the occasional wildlife to spot. The trip (one way) takes about an hour and there is plenty of time for photos and relaxing.
On reaching the other side of the bay , unfortunately the French couple did not disembark, so we lost our translators. Bernard pointed to an opening in the foliage, which marked the start of the walk to the Natural Pool. As we disembarked the Piroque (this time with reef sandals on ) , Bernard was kind enough to fill a bucket with sea water, for us to clean of the mud we had walk in. He was the only Pirogue driver to do this. He headed back across Upi Bay and we headed into the rainforest.
The forrest walk is along a reasonably well marked path and takes about 45 mins. You will need reasonable fitness to do this walk. On exiting the forest, we made our way to The Natural Pool. There is very minimal signage and we relied on asking other people in the area for directions. We made it to the stunning Natural Pool ( I will write a seperate review for the pool ). You will have to cross a water way ( not deep) to get to the Pool.
After spending many hours at the pool, swimming, snorkelling and having our lunch, we had to make our way to the pick up point. It is important to note that we were never given any instructions by Neutomo Excursion at any point of the day and we relied on the tour description, which we had printed out and thankfully bought with us.
The description mentioned the pick up point of Chez Regis at 15:30. Chez Regis is not marked anywhere and it was by chance that we made our way to the right point. Thankfully one person we asked, spoke English and had a rough idea where it was ( it is a dilapidated shack by the way).
Despite the total lack of communication from Neutomo Excursion, the Pool and Upi bay trip were highlights of our visit.
