点评:I wasn't expecting to see Romans ruins on my visit to Regensburg, so this was a very pleasant surprise as I was wandering around after seeing St. Peter's Cathedral. The panel on the wall states:
"Along with the Porta Nigra in Trier, the Porta Praetoria is the only partly preserved Roman gate north of the Alps. It served as the northern gate of the Castra Regina legionary camp, which was completed in AD 179."
Interestingly, the extant portions of the gate are integrated into the Bishop's residence, so you almost have to notice the Corinthian style limestone blocks in order to recognize that something of more historical significance is going on with this building.
There isn't a ton to see here, but it makes for a very interesting little side-trip when you visit the Dom. It was recently restored in 2017. Highly recommended!
