Enjoyed Tour of the Residence of the Governor General
Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle的点评
点评：We visited the Citadelle de Quebec, home to the Royal 22e Regiment. As an active military fort and installation, visitors can only visit by guided tours. Admission is $22 CAD ($20 CAD for seniors and students) and includes a one hour outdoor tour (English or French), free admission to the on-site Royal 22e Regiment Museum and an optional free guided tour of the on-site Residence of the Governor General.
After the general tour and the changing of the guard ceremony, we joined the one hour tour of the Residence of the Governor General. This tour was as good, or even better, than the general tour.
Our tour guide was wonderful and clearly enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the Governor General. We learned that as the representative of the British monarchy, the Governor General has a ceremonial role in the Canadian government. Business is conducted from the Citadelle residence and at the primary residence, Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
As we walked through different rooms of the Residence, our tour guide highlighted different architectural details and artwork. We rode the tube elevator specially installed for Pope Francis' visit. We admired a beautiful modern portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and husband Phillip as well as a painting that captured the historic meeting of FDR, Churchill and Canada’s Prime Minister King at the Residence.
