Disappointing price gauging and “free popcorn” lie

点评：The Arc Cinema Drogheda advertises “FREE POPCORN WITH EVERY TICKET” with no asterisks, no conditions, and no fine print online. Their own article clearly states: “with every ticket purchased… you’ll receive a complimentary serving,” “free popcorn with every ticket,” and even “free popcorn for all.” Nothing in the promotion mentions exclusions, combos, or cancellations.
I bought two tickets and expected two free popcorns. I was given one. When I asked for the second, staff claimed my husband’s medium deal counted as “upgrading the free popcorn.” But that’s not how an upgrade works. An upgrade means you get the included item and pay the difference for a bigger one. Instead, we were charged full price for the medium deal and the cinema simply removed the free popcorn altogether. Calling that an ‘upgrade’ is misleading at best.
Worse, the only “terms” explaining this weren’t online or visible during booking — they were on a sheet sitting at the counter after you’ve already paid. This directly contradicts their public advertising and the wording on their website’s own article.
Combined with the extra Hypersense surcharge, the whole experience ends up feeling pricey, unfair, and frankly scam-like. It’s disappointing to see a promotion advertised so boldly and then delivered in a way that feels deliberately unclear. Very poor business practice.
