点评：While driving to and from Boston, my wife and I will always avoid the George Washington Bridge and the Cross-Bronx Expressway, opting instead to cross the Hudson River over Tappan Zee, now known as Cuomo. This gives us the opportunity to drive on Palisades Parkway (US 9W), a far more pleasant drive under most conditions. Yesterday was no exception. We had glorious late summer weather, sunny skies, and full green foliage. The overlook we stopped at had no admission fee, but the parking cost $2.85 per hour. Cyclists were biking everywhere. The parking lot was fairly full. While the food at the lodge is no great shakes, it is there and $9.50 for a hamburger is not the worst. But really, the views were spectacular. Being able to see the vast Hudson Valley from on top of the Palisades ridge is one of the great viewpoints in the U.S.A. Further down the way is a second rest area with a full view of New York City that cannot be beat. This is a wonderful place to take a break for couples, families with children, or anyone with a dog needing to stretch their legs. We saw peregrine falcons and turkey vultures, and heard an owl in the trees. The state has added very informative curation signs that include the full explanation of the place and its place in African-American history, letting us know it was once called Skunk Hollow, purchased by Freedmen.
