点评:Saturday 7th February and we visited these falls as an itinerary stop on our open top bus tour.
Our route took us from Fort de France in the the direction of La Mourne Rouge along the narrow winding roads under the canopy of the rain forest. The falls are located on the Route de la Traversée (D23) in Petit-Bourg.
We arrived at Cascade aux Ecrevisses, which translates as The Crayfish Waterfall and parked up along the roadside.
It was roughly a 300 metre walk along the pathway to the edge of the pool at the base of the falls. At times the pathway was narrow so we had to wait for other visitors to pass who were walking in the opposite direction, it was rather busy here at the time of our visit.
A mixture uneven concrete steps led us down to the pool where the narrow flow of water cascades into the pool. Be aware that the approach pathway can be slippery when wet
As we approached the pool we got our first glimpse of the falls. They are fed by the Corossol River and cascade down the rock face from a height of roughly 10 metres into the pool below.
It is a natural pool and a popular swimming spot. There are signs about warning that the pool was unsupervised and swimming there was at your own risk.
We did chamber across rocks and stones to the pool however unlike some other brave souls we did not venture in. The best we did was put our hands in the water, it was freezing.
After we had been to the falls we crossed over the road to visit Bassin aux Ecrevisses, reviewed separately.
