The Nutcracker: a spectacular show, do it again!

点评：When Sasha Wilson and Callum Patrick Hughes collaborate on a feminist/matrilineal, folk adaptation of the Nutcracker, you just go. Both coming off of 5-star reviews at Edinburgh, they bring their unique practices together to focus on the musicality and through line of Clara; who gets to write her own story.
Sasha brings her specialty of actor-musicianship and feminist adaptation that is as ever supported with strong talent and rich directing choices in fluid folk inspired stage choreography and dramatic lighting design. Callum is pure genius in the blending and bending of Tchaikovsky’s score for symphony and Celtic folk music. He makes it sound as though this music was meant for the mandolin, the flute, the piano.
All this comes together as a craft to make the story and sound accessible and relatable at levels the original- dare I say- did not. It’s genius. Do it again!
