A short scenic drive from Montego Bay gets you to the Hampden Sugar Estate. You approach through a long row of palm trees, at the end of which is a retired still. The Great House, complete with peacocks roaming the grounds is at the end as well as the registration desk.
You are greeted with your hands beong sprayed with rum instead of jand sanitizer. Our guide was Suzan, who started us off with a brief history of Jamaica and of rum production in Jamaica. She explained the whole distilling process before taking us into the distillery to see it in action.
We learned about esters and how they impact the taste and smell of rums. We learned how other brands make use of Hampden Rums. At the end of the tour is a tastinf where you can sample a variety of rums as well as learn what to look for in terms of quality.
There is probably more, but the first time I wrote this review I lost it. Just check it out. You will not be disappointed.
