We stopped off at Neil Hawkins Park to meet up with family and celebrate a special milestone — my sister’s husband completed his 400th Parkrun! It was the perfect spot for the occasion. We brought along supplies for a barbecue and made use of the clean, well-maintained facilities, including the public barbecues and shaded seating areas.
The park is incredibly well kept, with neat lawns, spotless public toilets, and a fantastic children’s play area that was full of happy kids. We also grabbed some coffee from the on-site coffee shop, which was a lovely touch and kept us warm during the early morning start.
One of the highlights is the access to the large lake, home to a variety of birds and wildlife. The tarmacked path that loops around the lake — about 20 kilometres — is great for safe cycling or a scenic walk. It’s a peaceful, nature-filled setting with something for everyone.
Definitely a spot worth visiting, whether you're catching up with family, getting some exercise, or just enjoying a relaxing day outdoors.
