点评:AVOID fishing at BUFFALO CREEK
Buffalo Creek receives wastewater discharge from the Leanyer-Sanderson sewage treatment plant. Water quality is extremely poor inside the creek and even the beach side can display obvious signs of sewage pollution. Buffalo Creek remains the most polluted waterway in Darwin and Palmerston.
(For reference the Leanyer-Sanderson area contain a population of roughly more than 20,000 residents, which include the suburbs of Leanyer, Anula, Wulagi, Marrara, Breezes Muirhead and parts of Malak).
Buffalo Creek is highly subjected to sewage waste, and all shellfish, crabs and fish that reside in the creek for extended periods are subjected to high levels of toxic bioaccumulation. I have also visited the creek during neap tides, and observed water looking like a thick green soup, sometimes with an unpleasant smell.
Through my 15 years of living and fishing in Darwin, I've heard reports of Barra being caught with TAMPONS in their GUTS, Barra with GREEN FLESH when filleted, people getting sick just from breathing the air within the mangroves whilst fishing, and the overall fishing success has declined severely.
Every year there is a fish kill when the first rains dumb, this flushes all the sh** (literal sh** particles) that have accumulated over the dry season which sees all water parameters in state of shambles. It is DISGUSTING. Last reported fish kill occurred on 02/11/2021. The creek is tested by the DLRM however, testing is done on high tides which don't represent true water quality parameter values as the surface water tested is mostly ocean water. On low tides, all the sediment and sewage waste is left behind and concentrated in the creek, as a result of the creeks poor directional outflow. Most people fish on low tide.
Crocodiles are also a problem, and often travel in and out of the creek sometimes residing there. Green Creek (named after, well, the water appearing like a GREEN SOUP is an area of Buffalo Creek further upstream and is accompanied with the actual sewage outlet), this place has seen crocodiles larger than 5 meters residing. I have also observed 2m-4m crocodiles hanging around the boat ramp of Buffalo Creek at night through past years, and recently (3 weeks ago) spotted a 3m plus crocodile hanging out on the right side of the boat ramp at night.
The creek is also subjected to high boat traffic as Buffalo Creek Boat Ramp is the only boat ramp close enough for the public to launch their boat to access and fish the popular creeks and reefs of Lee point and shoal bay. The high traffic from boats has also created oil pollution, and the constant disturbance of boats scare fish and prevent schooling. Even the fish avoid this place.
It is also currently subjected to an over populated amount of cast netters. During low tides, I have witnessed and observed over 30 people casting nets along the entire beach of buffalo creek (might as well drag net the whole place), and gathered reports from some of the netters stating that bait is consistently scarce and they struggle to catch a few prawns or mullets, with most netters venturing into waist deep water and often crossing to the other side of the creek putting their lives at risk just to catch a few small mullets and prawns if they're lucky.
Another concern are the car break ins and theft. Over the past years there has been a significant amount of car breakages, vehicles and boat trailers stolen as well as community violence, a lot of which has gone unheard of in the media and kept quiet.
Something needs to be done with the management of this system especially the sewage system, as it seems to be overly concentrated and an overabundance of sewage is excreted into just one small creek with poor outflow, Buffalo Creek. And now with the development of new residential defence housing along Lee Point road south of Muirhead and the Breezes community, we will see increased disruption to the already struggling wildlife and water systems around Lee Point and Buffalo creek, and of course, an increase of your neighbours sh** particles arousing your nostrils.

Green Creek(得名于,嗯,看起来像GREEN SOUP的水是Buffalo Creek更上游的一个区域,并伴有实际的排污口),这个地方曾居住过5米以上的鳄鱼。
