点评:My wife and I just returned from an amazing trip to Yellowstone NP with David Schultz. I've been to Yellowstone several times in warmer weather, but had always wanted to go in the winter. Given my interest in photography, my wife gave me (us) this trip for my 60th birthday.
David, and our snow coach driver Ed, were terrific. They've been doing this for years and have lots of great stories and really know the park - its amazing vistas, wildlife habitats, and history. Spending 4 days with them was a pleasure.
My wife is not really into photography, so she wasn't sure about going on the trip at first. We're so glad that we went together. We saw and experienced so many amazing things that it would have been unfortunate if she had missed them. David and Ed didn't just talk photography all the time, so she never felt left out.
If you love landscape photography, Yellowstone has plenty to offer - snowy scenes, mountains vistas, unique geothermal areas, waterfalls, beautiful forests, etc. If you love wildlife photography, there is so much to see - bison, eagles, foxes, swans, martens, hares, wolves, sheep, elk, coyotes, and more. Of course no photo tour can guarantee sightings of specific animals, but we saw bison, eagles, swans, coyotes, elk and wolves. It was also cool to see all the different animal tracks in the snow and wonder what made them and where they were hiding.
David was very helpful to me, since I am by no means an expert photographer. I've enjoyed photography my whole life, but this was the first "photo tour" on which I have been. David gave me tips on camera settings, looking at a scene from different angles, paying attention to backgrounds and he definitely knows Yellowstone inside and out - he has scoped out great views of all the sites we visited so you almost can't help but take a lot of keepers!
If you follow David's gear list, you shouldn't have a problem with the cold. We were lucky that there was little wind during our visit, but it did get down to -24F one day. Hand/foot warmers were great to have (and are available at the West Yellowstone markets if you forget yours). Also, you don't often stray too far from the relative warmth of the snow coach. Of course many of the restrooms in the park are unheated, so a few minutes of bravery might be required.
I would definitely recommend this photo tour highly. It was something I had dreamed of for years, and the reality was everything I had hoped it would be!
Thanks, David (and Ed)
