Visit Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya first, then visit Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya
Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya的点评
点评:Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya and its grounds are very different from the other lower shrine, Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya, yet they have interesting linked histories which are worth researching.
Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya is expansive, covering what seems to be a much larger area than Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya. The two shrines were designed by two different architects, from two different schools of shrine architecture, which explains why they appear so different even though they were constructed at the same time. Apparently the schools actually competed with each other regarding the carvings on the buildings.
Harumiya Shrine also has a giant shimenawa and ancient trees. We visited on a sunny day and we greatly appreciated the light in contrast to the rainy day when we visited the other lower Suwa Taisha shrine. On the other hand, the atmosphere of Akimiya was enhanced by the mist and light rain (until it began to pour, that is).
I recommend visiting both Suwa Taisha Shimosha Harumiya and the other lower shrine, Suwa Taisha Shimosha Akimiya. Harumiya's compound is larger so perhaps it will take you more time to visit thus visiting here second makes the most sense.
Visitor's tip: this is an easy walk from the station.
