I will start with the ranch is conveniently located, horses look cared for, and the actual ranch staff was lovely, thoughtful, and patient. This review is mostly about Jessica, a trail guide with a surly disposition and a terrible bedside manner for children experiencing something new.
My eldest daughter was turning 9, and the height of the horses made her reluctant and afraid to ride. I figured with their age allowances they were used to children being nervous. The ranch owner? was helpful in guiding her to eventually ride with me. Jessica, our guide, stood by rolling her eyes and acting bored and fed up with the process. I should have canceled the ride then, but my daughter had relaxed enough to continue the ride.
Jessica was awful. She barked orders and spent the entire 1 mile out shaming everyone for something different, speaking harshly. I respect that although I am experienced I am not above pointers or lessons, but being scolded for almost an hour straight was frustrating and exhausting.
Once we reached the trail, I requested we turn around for Aurora's comfort and wellbeing. Jessica proceeded to laugh loudly at my daughter for her concerns and told us that "never" had anyone requested to turn around. I reminded Jessica both of my children on the ride were special needs and we had been assured that it was no problem and that the horses work well with children of all abilities.
She proceeded to tell me that I should have been more clear about my children's needs, loudly and aggressively, in front of my children. This was deeply embarrassing and unprofessional. Jessica is just out there to ride horses; do not expect any empathy, care, or joy on your ride with her.
I would not recommend this ranch unless you can confirm Jessica will not be your guide.
