Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary的点评
点评：My friend and I were recently visiting Kona and did "The Early Bird: Guided Birding" tour with Anna, which is currently available on Thursday and Saturday mornings and lasts about 2 hours. This is a newer tour and guide Anna is the knowledgable and enthusiastic creator of the tour. Even though she is a transplant from the East Coast and relatively new to the Island of Hawai'i, she was very adept at sharing in depth information about the history and ecology of the Cloud Forest and the islands in general. Anna clearly is very passionate about her job and enjoys sharing the birds and forest with others. She's also an excellent bird spotter and knows their calls. All the birds were pretty far away/ high in the thick canopy, so you will likely not get any close up views or photos of birds unless you have an extraordinary telephoto lens and photographic ability. I had a good time anyway. I generally struggle with binoculars (it's my own vision issues) but I did see two Tanimbar Corellas (cockatoos) with the naked eye. There were a lot of 'Apapane flying around as well. They do have binoculars and walking sticks to borrow. I would advise using a walking stick if you have any balance or ankle/feet issues. The trail is a neverending sea of tree roots to navigate and the walk has some hills. There isn't really any even terrain. I'd also advise wearing hiking shoes with good tread. Mosquitos love me and I didn't have any trouble with bites on this early AM excursion. There is a port-a-potty at the trailhead, but only hand sanitizer to clean your hands after use. Parking is on the street on the side of the road by the entrance.
