点评：This week we visited the ‘Panzermuseum East’. It was a remarkable experience. The land and air vehicles on display are in immaculate condition and have been carefully curated to reflect their historical context. Perhaps it all began with tanks in this museum, but there is surprisingly much more to see. Aircraft and helicopters are, of course, real eye-catchers, but the ground vehicles of all types (tanks, radio units, air defence vehicles, field hospitals, supply vehicles, even a propaganda vehicle with a cinema screen, …) fill several halls and hangars and really do give an impression of military life that civilians would not otherwise easily get to experience.
The museum includes a huge site for special events and a very well-stocked museum shop, which offers not only historical items but also good outdoor equipment.
We didn’t get to meet the museum’s founder and owner, but we did meet the young history expert and guest host at reception – I think his name is Daniel. It’s easy to strike up a conversation with him, and he clearly takes great pleasure in ensuring visitors have a good time on the premises, which is a labour of love for him. A museum that’s definitely worth a visit, with a host you simply must meet.
