点评:Mother’s Day brought another great roadtrip!
Our first stop brought us to Chester, WV where we found the World’s Largest Teapot. We have seen the World’s Largest Coffeepot in Bedford so, why not a spot of tea?
Another example of Programmatic Architecture added to our collection of finds, this teapot stands 14’ high and 14’ wide. Built in 1938 to symbolize the local pottery industry, it was converted from a giant Hires Root Beer barrel into a teapot by adding a handle and spout, covered in tin, and used as a concession stand.
It features a, often red and white, teapot-shaped design constructed with a tin-covered wooden frame. The "knob" on top was originally a glass ball, later replaced with a basketball and then a plastic one.
There are 5 windows to sell from, but strangely, none are marked tea!
Though it lost its official "largest" status to a Texas teapot in 2025, it remains a beloved example of roadside architecture. 🫖
