Biting fish have moved in
Agios Andreas Beach (Crete)的点评
点评：In the past couple of years (2022, 2023) it seems that some fish that like to nip have moved into this little patch of water which makes the beach less ideal for gentle dipping and paddling although snorkelling is still fine. We still see plenty of locals here but perhaps the fish only like the taste of tourists? Hopefully the biting ones will disappear again over the next year or 2.
Please also note that a number of other reviews and photos are of a completely different beach, and that others are for the same stretch of beach but are much further along (east - away from Ierapetra). The best part for shelter and snorkelling is the part just beyond the Petra Mare hotel where there is a rocky outcrop. The beach here has good sand for sandcastles and has a very gentle slope into the water ideal for young and less confident swimmers. Further along (away from Ierapetra) the entry to the water is often over rock layers which can be slippery, and the waves further along can also be bigger. There are no cafes or sunbeds on the part of the beach near the western end these are several hundred metres to the east.
Parking used to take place at the side of the road but this is now likely to get you a ticket so most people now park on gravel/dirt informal car parks off either side of the road. The west most of these is on the opposite side of the road to the sea, and then 500m further east along the road there are some more on the sea-side of the road near the sunbeds and food outlets.
