点评:Firstly, I have to say getting here was brilliant. I took a vaporetto for San Giorgio Maggiore and it went right around the main island, past the big park and the Arsenal, before turning for Murano, while also giving a great view of the Cemetery Island with the Alps in the distance. Although it was still March the weather was gorgeous and not so hot as to be troubling. The Island of Murano was lovely to walk around, but you'll get many reviews of that and the glass museums.
When I first arrived the church was locked and I didn't understand why, so I went and visited Burano and Torcello and then came back on my return trip. It turns out it had been somebody's funeral so was closed while that took place. It reminds you that amongst all the hordes of tourists milling around in shorts and t-shirts outside this is home to real people.
The church itself was absolutely lovely, and the paintings would grace any of the world's great galleries.
A stunning place I would thoroughly recommend in spite of the crowds, and even as a respite from them.
