So disappointing, parking nightmare

点评：What a shame. This is a beautiful beach, unfortunately, a few things seem to have changed recently that made this a really disappointing visit.
First of all, the car park. This is now run by some external company who will try and hit you with a fine if you make any mistake with typing in your registration number. You might think that is not entirely unreasonable, until you try and use the ticket machine which is erratic in its behaviour, at best. Apparently the company is called Onestopparking and its seems a bit of a scam. However, if you avoid the convenient car park and don't mind a bit of a walk, there is a much better option about half a mile up the road. As we had a toddler, we foolishly made the mistake of taking the convenient option.
Second, the beach is now massively overcrowded. If you visit off season it's not too bad, but the atmosphere is completely ruined once the locals go into hiding and the tourists and their particular manner and nature set in. The beach is too small to accommodate that many people of that sort.
Finally, there seems to be a large emergence of boat and water sport enthusiasts which take up a large part of the beach and water. If you like Margate on a busy bank holiday, then this is for you. If you want a quiet day at the beach, avoid it like the plague. Oh, and most of the shops close early because its still just a little town and round here that's how the operate.
