Beautiful Heart of Valencia’s Old Town

点评：Plaza de la Reina is one of the places that really captures the atmosphere of Valencia’s historic centre.
The square is spacious, lively and almost completely pedestrianised, making it very pleasant to walk around and appreciate the surrounding architecture. The view towards Valencia Cathedral and the Micalet tower gives the square a particularly impressive character and makes it a great starting point for exploring the Old Town.
From an architectural perspective, I particularly enjoyed the relationship between the open contemporary public space and the historic façades surrounding it. The recent pedestrian-oriented design allows the monuments to be appreciated much better without the visual interruption of heavy traffic.
There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and small streets leading from the square, and many of Valencia’s most interesting historic attractions are only a short walk away.
During the summer the heat and strong sunlight can make the open areas a little uncomfortable in the middle of the day, despite the provision of trees and shading elements, so I would recommend visiting in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Overall, a beautiful, vibrant and architecturally interesting public space and an essential stop when exploring Valencia’s Old Town.
