点评:Fugitive Beach was everything we wanted! On a Wednesday in August, four of us (my brother and I, plus my two teenagers) made the 90 minute drive from St. Louis to Rolla. We arrived at 11:30a and left at 4p, when thunderstorms hit, but we were getting ready to leave anyway. It wasn't empty, but it wasn't crowded. Plenty of room on the beach to set up, and plenty of room in the water to swim, relax, and throw around a football without hitting people. The inflatable obstacle course and cliff-jumping platforms had lines, but never more than a handful of people. We opted out of all of that. It's about $23 per adult, $18 for under 18, plus gas for the road trip to get there. Not the cheapest (I read it was $5/ person 10 years ago), but totally worth it for a 1-day summer adventure. Fugitive Beach has cabanas, life jackets, and inflatables to rent, plus food and drinks to buy. We opted out of all of that: brought our own 10x10 tent (they provide concrete weights to hold it down), some fold-up chairs, our own life-jackets, and a cooler full of food and snacks for sandwiches, and plenty of drinks. The tent was clutch, as we probably would not have stayed as long without shelter. FYI, the Cabanas rent for like $70/day but you can get a tent at Academy sports for $50. River shoes/sandals help a lot, although once you're in the water you don't need them. The shoes are great for walking from jump to jump, but we made those trips barefoot and were fine. The place is very safe; lifeguards at multiple spots, and they are strict with the life-jacket policy, plus they'll make sure the straps are tight. Platforms were so much fun to jump off, and the best part of the day is lots of people cheering on and clapping for kids and adults that are scared but eventually make the jump. Highly recommend the Fugitive Beach experience for a splurge; it's a little pricey to come very often. And I imagine it would be packed on the weekends and a different experience.
