点评:The city of Annecy is nicknamed the “Venice of the Alps,” and I honestly don’t know whether the people who say that have never actually seen Venice… or if their imagination is so powerful that it could put even the most famous sci-fi authors to shame.
So, to be clear: if you have a small mountain river for which you dig a channel to prevent flooding, and that channel sometimes splits in two, you don’t suddenly have a “little Venice”—you just have a city with a stream running through it.
To be honest, my walk along the Thiou River reminded me more of Dutch towns — but of course it sounds far more glamorous, and far easier to pronounce “Little Venice” than “Little ’s-Hertogenbosch” (yes, this is actually a Dutch city, not a keyboard malfunction).
Now, to be fair, the city is picturesque, but…
1. It’s incredibly crowded, comparable only to the tourist centers of major European capitals, except here everyone is holding ice cream
2. Speaking about ice cream - Annecy is full of tourist traps — I saw dozens of people queueing to buy the city's famous ice cream, which is no different from the anonymous ice cream sold just a few streets away (if you’re in the area, try a small experiment and see if you can tell the difference)
3. The terraces are packed, and many of them have prices that shocked me — and I lived for three years in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world
4. The historical buildings converted into museums don’t live up to expectations — in many of them there is (almost) nothing to see
Final rating: 2 stars for a visit in the middle of the tourist season. The experience would probably be far more enjoyable at any other time of year, preferably when half of Europe isn’t there with you.
