点评:This museum far exceeded my expectations. The whole museum primarily revolves around the lived experiences of many survivors who settled in St. Louis after the war. Each of the exhibits share their heart wrenching story. I visited the Holocaust Museum in D.C in 2006 and noticed that one difference between the STL one and the D.C. one is that the STL one focused more on what led to the Holocaust. Perhaps the one in D.C. has changed since I last visited, but I remember it focusing more on the Holocaust itself. Here in STL, you will learn about both the Holocaust and the events and culture that led to it happening.
I have to say, when I leave most museums, I leave with a good understanding of the subject matter of that museum. With this museum, I left having great difficulty understanding what I had just seen. This is not a slam against the museum, this just proves that the Holocaust was just so horrific that the human mind can’t really fully comprehend what happened. This museum did an effective job really explaining thoroughly how awful the Holocaust truly was and not holding back. We shouldn’t hold back what happened. We should allow people to tell their stories and listen to them.
There wasn’t too much graphic content - far less than the one in D.C., so I think it would be safe for children at least 10 and up.
Everyone needs to visit this museum and be informed and aware of how these types of things start.
