Newmarket Racecourses的点评
点评：We’ve been coming to the April meeting at Newmarket every year and have always really enjoyed it, but unfortunately this year was quite disappointing.
Normally, when we come as a group, we opt for the Grandstand enclosure as it’s more affordable. When it’s just the two of us, we’ve happily paid extra for the Premier enclosure, as it usually offers a better overall experience. This year, with the enclosures combined, we didn’t mind paying the higher price as we assumed it would mean improved access and better seating—particularly the upstairs outdoor seating area, which has always been a highlight.
However, on arrival, we were told that this upstairs area had been turned into a restaurant and was now only accessible to owners, trainers, and annual badge holders. This was really disappointing, as it significantly reduced the value of the upgraded ticket. For the extra money, we gained very little—just a slightly larger area, but no meaningful increase in available seating.
Seating has always been an issue here, especially on busy days. Indoor seats are taken early and held onto all day, and the limited outdoor seating is no different. There is a large outdoor space that could easily accommodate more seating, but it simply isn’t provided. As a result, I spent most of the day standing, which isn’t ideal for what should be an enjoyable day out.
It feels like prices are going up, but the overall experience isn’t improving—in fact, in this case, it’s gone backwards. It’s such a shame, as Newmarket has so much potential, but they just don’t seem to get these important details right.
I’ve previously raised concerns about food and drink prices, but honestly, that matters less than the overall experience—and unfortunately, this time, it just didn’t feel worth the money.
