点评：From the Napoleonic to the Cold war this museum engrossingly documents the Islands involvement in these conflicts. It tells two exciting stories – the aviation heritage in particular WWI/WWII of IOM and the IOM and its people at war. By focusing on people and their incredible often heroic real stories rather than events it has an unusually intimate and often moving atmosphere.
Often likened to Dr Who's "Tardis", and packed full of exhibits ranging from a tiny model tank to full sized aircraft, rare and unique items recovered from the Irish Sea plus a memorial garden to Canadian and Polish airmen, the museum is a most memorable, amazing, compelling, stunning and awe inspiring experience.
Watch aircraft passing close by from Ronaldsway airport [even be a pilot on historic Manx Airways aircraft] whilst sitting in the peaceful memorial garden or the picnic area and visit the shop for gifts, books and model kits.
Entry is free. The museum is a charity, run by knowledgeable volunteers, and receives no official funding so donations are welcomed to help cover the operating costs / maintain exhibits as well as develop new exhibits / restore aircraft – in particular currently the Morris gun tractor appeal.
