点评:Recently my wife and I took a weekend to visit Mississippi and Louisiana to hike a couple of each state's best trails. One of those in Mississippi is a 1.6 mile loop called Fontainebleau Nature Trail that is a part of the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. There are two reasons that this is listed in the state's top 10 hikes and you should hike it. The first is it is a great example of the historic the pine prairie that once dominated the ecosystems along the northern Gulf Coast. The second is you get amazing views of Davis Bayou in its natural wild setting.
This is a totally free experience in Ocean Springs and can be easily completed within 40 minutes. The parking lot and beginning of the trail is just off a major road and behind a middle school. While you are close to civilization, a couple of steps on the trail and you feel like you are totally in the wilderness. We only live 2 hours away so we arrived on a May Friday about 10:30 and began the hike. Going clockwise, you quickly approach the Davis Bayou section with overlooks that provide great views. This section is very similar to our home, but I greatly enjoyed the walk around the water. From there you leave the water to loop through the pine prairie which was very enjoyable in the morning. By the time we returned, it had started to warm but the walk was very enjoyable and beautiful, plus we were nearly the only people on the trail.
