Very disappointing experience – bikes poorly maintained and questionable customer service

点评：We hired four racer/road bikes from this company in Salou, expecting them to be properly serviced and safe to use. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing.
On the first day, one of the bikes broke down just 100 yards from the shop when the chain came off. My friend had to return the bike to the shop.
The following day, we went on a 30 km cycle. My bike initially seemed fine, but during the final kilometre the chain broke completely. We returned the bike to a different shop because it was closer. We had specifically been told when hiring the bikes that we could return them to another shop belonging to the same company, so this was not an issue in our mind.
The next day, we went out again and two of the four bikes had problems with the chains coming off. I also discovered that I could only use a limited number of gears and could not properly use the full range. At this point, it became very clear to us that these bikes had not been properly checked or serviced before being hired out.
Things became even more disappointing when we returned the bikes and were told that we would be charged €200 for the broken chain on my bike. Considering the ongoing chain and gear problems we had experienced across several of the bikes, we felt this was completely unreasonable.
One of our friends is Spanish and initially stayed out of the discussion. However, when they tried to charge us for the bike problems, he became involved and spoke to them in Spanish. Their attitude changed noticeably once they realised he was Spanish and understood exactly what was being said.
We requested an incident report for the police, and after this was raised, they eventually agreed to return our full deposit and did not charge us the €200.
Overall, we found the customer service extremely disappointing. In our opinion, the bikes were old and, more importantly, were not being properly maintained or checked before being hired out. The repeated chain problems were concerning and could potentially have resulted in an accident.
Based on our experience, we would not recommend hiring bikes from this company. We were left with the strong impression that they were willing to hold customers responsible for mechanical problems that should have been identified and dealt with before the bikes were rented out. I hope this is not a habit from the company to scam tourists out of money, as this is what it felt like.
