Fascinating Camera Obscura housed in a lovely historic cricket pavilion.
Kirriemuir Camera Obscura & Cafe Obscura的点评
点评:We had a fantastic visit to the Kirriemuir Cricket Pavilion where Camera Obscura is situated. This beautiful listed building has been preserved to be just as it was when it was built in 1930. Still having some of the original cricket equipment on site.
The camera obscura itself which was built within the building as requested by J.M Barrie himself as he so loved the one in his hometown when he was a lad.
The cafe and camera Obscura tour is run by volunteers who use their free time to run the small tour and make and serve the goods in the cafe! What a lovely thing for these people to do to preserve such a historical part of their hometown! We had the please of Ron who showed us how the camera Obscura worked and answered all our questions, pointing out interesting places in our view with the camera, very passionate about his hometown.
Irena served us in the cafe and was very friendly and told about how any profits made were put back into the community to benefit everyone in Kirriemuir. We would definitely recommend a visit to learn how the camera Obscura works (please do not go expecting the heavily commercialised Edinburgh version). This little place runs on Donations and the sales in the cafe which are all greatly received and appreciated! It all helps towards the upkeep of such a historic building, well done to the Volunteers for taking on this fascinating little place! See you again soon, especially for those strawberry tarts!!
