Small bu fascinating exhibition
Castle Archdale Country Park的点评
点评：I visited with a couple of friends as part of a day trip on motorbikes to Fermanagh, from home in Belfast.
We wanted to see the WW2 exhibition and we found it very interesting. It’s not a large exhibit, housed on the first floor of one of the remaining outbuildings of the large mansion house which used to be here. But it is very well set out, and gives a great flavour of life in and around the flying boat base during WW2.
I particularly enjoyed the pilot’s account of a 13-hour patrol over the North Atlantic, and the routine and conditions on the aircraft during the mission. It was also fascinating to read about the secret agreement between the Republic of Ireland and UK go ernments, which allowed aircraft based at RAF Castle Archdale to overfly Donegal. I was also surprised to learn that the Royal Navy was allowed to base a search &rescue boat at Killybegs.
I would certainly recommend a visit to anyone interested in WW2 and RAF Castle Archdale. I cannot comment on any of the other facilities.
