点评:Although the park itself is beautiful and we have enjoyed camping here several times in the past, unfortunately, this most recent experience was disappointing, largely due to the way our group was treated and the lack of clear communication regarding changes to the campground policies.
We checked into Group Camp 1 and asked about shower facilities. At check-in, we were shown on the map where we could access the showers, so we had no reason to believe there would be an issue. We have stayed here several times before and were familiar with how the campground operated.
Our group had only four vehicles. In previous visits, we had always been able to park our vehicles within the campground loop. On the second morning, while we were preparing breakfast, a member of the park maintenance crew informed one of our family members that vehicles were no longer allowed to remain parked in the campground and would need to be moved to the parking lot. We did not have an opportunity to ask questions or clarify the change before the crew left.
We continued preparing breakfast with the intention of moving the vehicles once we were finished. Shortly afterward, the park ranger drove quickly across the bridge and directly up to our shelter. There were children throughout the campground, and his approach and demeanor were unnecessarily aggressive. He immediately confronted us, angrily stating that we had already been told to move our vehicles and had not done so. The entire atmosphere changed—the children were visibly startled, everyone became quiet, and what had been an enjoyable camping trip suddenly became very uncomfortable.
We asked for clarification about the parking policy because this was different from our previous experiences at the park. We were told the policy had changed the previous year under new management in an effort to protect the grass. We completely understand wanting to protect the campground and were willing to follow the rule. We simply would have appreciated being informed clearly and given a reasonable opportunity to move our vehicles, rather than being approached in such a hostile manner.
We were also told by the ranger that we were not permitted to use the showers because we had reserved the group campground. This was especially frustrating because the showers had specifically been pointed out to us when we checked in. If Group Camp 1 guests are not permitted to use those facilities, that information should be clearly communicated at check-in.
We explained that we were in the middle of preparing breakfast and would move the vehicles as soon as we were finished. He eventually agreed and left. The issue could have been handled very differently with simple, respectful communication.
Unfortunately, that was not the only issue during our stay.
Later that day, the ranger supervisor stopped by to inform us that a marathon would be taking place on the trail running through the campground. We were told to expect minimal disruption because the runners would primarily be using the trails. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
Starting as early as 7:00 a.m., we were repeatedly awakened by bathroom doors constantly slamming as runners came through and used the facilities. This continued for nearly two hours, with runners entering one after another. Several runners also came into our shelter area, where we had personal belongings, apparently believing that was where the race would begin. We repeatedly had to redirect people and eventually contacted park staff because the disruption had become excessive.
We understand that parks host events and that changes to campground policies sometimes need to be made. Our concern is the lack of communication and, most importantly, the manner in which these issues were handled. We were respectful and willing to follow the rules; we simply expected the same level of respect in return.
We have enjoyed this park in the past, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing. The campground itself is great, but clearer communication with campers and a more professional, respectful approach from staff would have made a significant difference.
There was also an additional issue involving damage to our vehicle. While our vehicle was parked, it was hit and sustained damage. This was particularly frustrating given the circumstances surrounding the park’s parking policy and the fact that we were instructed to move our vehicles from the campground to the designated parking area. We expected our vehicle to be safe while parked and were disappointed to leave the campground dealing with damage that occurred during our stay.
This added another level of frustration to an already disappointing experience. We hope the park will take these concerns seriously and provide clearer communication regarding parking, campground rules, event-related disruptions, and procedures for handling vehicle damage.
