点评：We visited the two NP in Hawaii. A 6 hour flight from
HNL brings you to American Samoa. It’s a very unique experience from other NP. It is remote and the trails are not maintained like the states. We started at the visitor center and was provided very helpful map laying out all the points of interest on the island. One surprising fact, as many of these points of interest were difficult to locate. There’s no clearly marked parking many times you’re on personal property in which you have to ask the owners will pay the owners to be on the property. For example, we went hiking at FAGETLE Bay at the sanctuary came up to the chain across it and learned from the neighbor we had to honk for somebody to come let us in. We paid $10 per person to go down to the Bay Area to snorkel. Unfortunately the waves are very high. We’re not able to see much in the area, but we imagine it would be quite beautiful on a calmer day.
We found the people to be very friendly and helpful.
Because it is so remote and economically struggling a bit, there are not many services such as hotels and restaurants.
The island is easy to navigate if you rent a car. Expect not to be in a hurry and be on island time speed limits are about 20 miles an hour. We found our self on back roads that were not paved/dirt in order to get to some of the landmark areas.
Definitely recommend going to the turtle and shark area by the ocean.
