Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium的点评
点评：Created in 1971, this delightful park is actually owned by the city of Kingsport. Nearly 4000 acres, there is plenty to do and see. At the time of this writing, the entry fee for a car is $7 dollars.
There is a combination of a nature center, a state-of-the-art Planetarium, 40 miles of trails and a pontoon boat to take you out on the 44-acre reservoir.
The nature center is quite extensive. A “Bee” exhibit was highlighted during our visit. It was interesting to find out that a bee wing can beat 230 times a second; there are 20,000 species of bees in the world; 4,000 species of bees live in the USA; and a bee can go as fast as 15mph.
There is also a butterfly exhibit; a mineral exhibit and live local fish in a good size tank. One fish actually came right up to us.
Unfortunately, the Planetarium is only open at 4:00 PM on a weekday. On the weekends there are shows at 12:00, 2:00 and 4:00.
An interesting store is also in the nature center. A $2.00 map is available explaining about all the trails. Bay’s mountain is 3,000 feet high. We plan on coming back on a weekend to take one of the trails and visit the Planetarium.
There is a remote chance of seeing a pack of gray wolves. Currently, there are 4 male and 4 female wolfs in the park. The oldest wolf dates back to 2007. There have been no reports of any attacks.
About 30 people can go on the pontoon boat exploring the reservoir on a 45-minute tour. Children need to be 30 inches tall. The pontoon is known as the “Barge Rider.”
