During our visit to the zoo, my child was bitten by a lemur. What was even more shocking was the way the zoo staff handled the situation afterwards.
A veterinarian came to provide first aid, but he initially treated my child’s wound with bare hands and without gloves. Only after we pointed this out did he put on gloves. The first aid itself was extremely poor and unprofessional.
Nobody clearly explained to us what we should do next, what medical attention was required, or which hospital we should go to. We received no proper instructions or guidance whatsoever.
In the end, we had to take our child to the hospital ourselves, where three stitches were required.
What is especially disappointing is that after such a serious incident, nobody from the zoo even mentioned compensation, responsibility, or any further assistance.
An animal bite involving a child should be treated as a serious medical and safety incident. The lack of professionalism, hygiene, communication and responsibility shown by the zoo staff was completely unacceptable.
I would not recommend this zoo, especially to families with children.
