点评:This was a very strange experience. I was prepared for many restaurants vying for our business like I read online and that there would be a Heritage Center. Instead we arrived to what was like an eery ghost town. There was no Heritage Center to be seen. There were decorations left over from Christmas but not any people in sight. No visitors and barren looking restaurants.
It was low tide and the area near the water smelled like sewage. The restaurants looked extremely run down.
We couldn’t hardly even get service in the restaurants. Just dead. After approaching one of the few people we saw, it was as if we were a nuisance to ask to order food and no one could understand what I was asking, which was how big are the fish. It seemed this would be a standard question given fish price is based on weight. Even with hand gestures about size there was complete confusion. Little by little other people were summoned to assist in communication, all seeming to be irritated to have to deal with a customer and all confused by the question.
Finally, we were understood and they pulled out a frozen fish to show us size. Frozen fish? Weirdness and confusion? No thanks. We called a Grab and left the area altogether.
This occurred at Stall #7 but there wasn’t really anyone to approach at any of the restaurants. Just dead.
Were any of these people of Kristang Heritage? I don’t know. The woman at the stand appeared to be from Mynamar. The others? We couldn’t say. I found literally nothing that indicated the culture or heritage of Eurasian people.
