Chiesa Di San Filippo Apostolo的点评
点评：We visited the Chiesa di San Filippo Apostolo during our stay in Siracusa in late April and early May 2026 on the fourth leg of a five week visit to Sicily. This unassuming 18th century church is situated in the heart of Ortigia in what was once the Jewish quarter and it was apparently built above the remains of a medieval synagogue. The church’s simple interior hides its true treasure which is three underground levels containing respectively crypts, a warren of underground passages connecting to various structures in Ortigia (and used as air raid shelters shelters during World War II) and at the lowest level remains of a Jewish ritual bath or mikveh. We took the 30 minute guided underground tour (“Giudecca Sotterranea” at a modest cost of €5 per person) and it provided new perspectives on Siracusa and its history. It was a fascinating tour and we recommend it to those visiting Siracusa for more than a day trip.
