Missed Sunrise, minimal biking, disappointing experience

点评：We had a very disappointing experience with this tour. Five minutes after our scheduled 1:45am pickup, we were called and told our pickup was cancelled. At that point, in the middle of the night, we had to scramble to find our own ride. Thankfully we were able to make it to the meeting point before 3:00am, but even arriving on time, we ended up on the last bus to the summit.
Because of this, we missed a significant portion of the sunrise. The sky was already light and the sun was coming up by the time we arrived. We also missed the Hawaiian singing, which we were really looking forward to. The sunrise was the main reason we booked the experience, so it was incredibly frustrating and disappointing to miss it.
To make matters worse, our tour guide made multiple stops in the dark to share long, unrelated stories while most of us were half asleep. These delays felt unnecessary and ultimately contributed to us not making it in time for the full sunrise experience.
The biking portion was also underwhelming. There was very little actual biking overall—just short stretches broken up by frequent stops. During many of these stops, the bike guide went into long, pun-heavy joke sessions that felt like a waste of time rather than adding to the experience. Additionally, there was a long stretch of the mountain where we were not allowed to bike at all and instead had to ride the bus as a group, which was not clearly communicated beforehand.
On top of everything, both the bus driver and bike guides repeatedly brought up tipping, at least 10 times throughout the experience. Being told it’s “rude not to tip” felt inappropriate, especially given the circumstances and the fact that we did not receive the experience we paid for.
We were refunded for the hotel transportation and given 10% off, but that does not come close to making up for missing the highlight of the tour. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience and not what we expected.
