Authentic, personal paintings that tell a story

点评：Having already bought a painting in Hanoi, we were not looking for another one when in Hoi An. However, having been on a fabulous 'fishing experience' the day before, a large painting of one of the fishing nets that are drawn in by a huge wooden cog wheel operated by both hands and feet, caught our eye. The colours of the dawn light in the painting caught the image perfectly. We went inside. The gentleman working there was also the painter - a really gentle soul, who was also a fisherman himself. He wasn't pushy or arrogant, just quietly spoken and friendly and warm. He talked about his fishing experiences and showed us other paintings he had done. Another couple caught our eye - one of a small fishing boat with a man throwing out a hand-held net at sunset, and one of the water buffalo walking across the paddy fields. We had no intention of buying another painting, but left with his card. After some thinking time, we knew we couldn't go home without one of his truly personal paintings that really represented the authentic Vietnam. We chose the fishing boat after much deliberation and he wrapped the painting really well so that we could post it home via the post office as it was too big to fit in a suitcase. He was so delighted that we wanted to purchase his work, and haggled in a very gentle manner to reach a mutually agreeable price. We had no trouble posting the painting to the UK from the Hoi An post office and it arrived safely. We love having this very personal memory on our wall at home. I would thoroughly recommend!
