点评：If you happen to be in Thirsk and are looking for a really interesting thing to do, then look no further than the Thirsk Museum!
Run by volunteers, the museum is packed with interesting displays and information about Thirsk, its people and its noteable place within history.
We called in whilst simultaneously taking part in the Thirsk Blue Plaque trail and really enjoyed our visit.
We were given such a wonderfully warm welcome and made to feel very much at home.
I think it would be fair to say that the museum is a beautiful hodge-podge of artefacts and information spread over a number of rooms. Each room contains lots of history, and you could certainly visit here a few times and still find something new to look at!
If you are the sort of visitor who is expecting swish presentation, interactive displays and QR codes then you might be disappointed. However, I can tell you that the presentation is beautifully double mounted; easy to read; and lovingly curated. You get all the pertinent facts, all the stories... just without the bells and whistles.
It is so refreshing to find a local museum which actually IS about the locality and not full of stuffed birds, animals and questionable artefacts.
Thirsk Museum is for the people, about the people and by the people.
A big shout out must go to the volunteers who give up their time to enable the museum to open.
If you are a little unstable on your feet and struggle with stairs, then you might just wish to stay on the ground floor ...there is PLENTY to look at here including a recreated kitchen complete with a range.
It's FREE to visit, donations are most welcome but not forced.
