点评:When my friends said that we were going to a Victorian sewage pumping station, I was a bit skeptical. We got up early and took a train to a bus (specifically for visitors of Crossness and run by volunteers) and then there was an option to take another small train or walk to the actual station. It was all very quaint and lovely.
We got to the station and I was blown away! Run by volunteers, this place had everything- a museum exhibit, informational videos, crafts for kids, live demonstrations, tours of the library, and the open station and workshop areas. Plus, a cafe and brewery on site. You could easily spend the whole day here!
The station itself is absolutely fabulous. It’s gorgeous and you can spend as much time there and take as many pictures as you want. You do need flat shoes, so plan accordingly. They’ll provide protective eyewear and hard hats. It was a once in a lifetime experience. The guys in the workshop were also really kind and explained the lathes to us.
This is a remarkable bit of history and a great off-the-beaten-path attraction for families and friends alike.
