A Deeper Sense of Kauaʻi
Limahuli Garden and Preserve的点评
点评：Visiting Limahuli Garden felt a little like stepping back in time and imagining how the earliest people of Kauaʻi lived in relationship with this extraordinary land. Seeing how they planted, irrigated, and terraced the valley to grow food and medicinal plants gave us a much deeper appreciation for both the ingenuity of the people and the abundance of the landscape that sustained them.
The tour, with its focus on canoe plants and native Hawaiian plants, was spectacular. We learned so much about the trees, foods, flowers, and other plants we were encountering. We visited Limahuli near the beginning of our trip, which turned out to be perfect. As we traveled around Kauaʻi afterward, we kept recognizing plants we had learned about in the garden and understanding a little more about what we were seeing. It enriched our experience of the entire island.
And the garden itself is simply stunning. The flowers were gorgeous, the ponds delightful, and the magnificent trees and lush vegetation felt almost comforting to be among. Everywhere we turned there seemed to be another beautiful view, including spectacular vistas out toward the ocean and of the interior peaks rising high above us. There are wonderful places along the way to stop, sit, take it all in, and simply be.
More than anything, Limahuli inspired a sense of wonder and awe at the abundance and biodiversity of Kauaʻi. It gave us a deeper sense of place and helped us understand some of the relationships among the land, plants, people, and culture that have shaped this island.
I would especially recommend visiting early in your trip. You may find, as we did, that you carry what you learn at Limahuli with you everywhere you go afterward. An unforgettable experience.
