点评:we had a lovely day visiting this less touristy part of the wall that is far less crowded. Our tour guide had arranged for a beautiful buffet lunch on top of the wall (how the chefs/cooks got everything up there is beyond me). It took about 2 1/2 hrs. by bus to get there. We stared out in the Gubei Watertown that was built in the old style but modern inside. From there you were driven up to the starting point of hiking up to the wall.
the wall was built under the Qin Dynasty to keep nomads from crossing the northern border. Unlike what people often think, the wall cannot be seen from space because it's pretty narrow. The wall is about 13,000 miles long (21K km). Just try to imagine that!!
You can hike some sections of the wall ... but it won't be easy. Just walking from one tower to the next isn't a piece of cake.
