点评：We booked a 5-day/4-night family safari (Nairobi – Masai Mara – Nairobi, 3 guests) through a tour operator going by "Simon Koech" / "Simion Kipkemboi Koech," who sent us a written itinerary on the letterhead of "Dawn In Africa Safaris." I'm writing this so other travelers don't end up where we did.
We negotiated a package price of $10,200 and paid $9,200 of it up front — $7,000 by bank wire and the rest in cash after we landed in Nairobi — fully trusting the itinerary he'd sent us, which explicitly included our lodge (Entim Mara Lodge), park entry fees, a guide, and all transport.
Once we were actually in the Mara, it fell apart. There was no reservation for us at Entim Mara Lodge. He hadn't paid our guide. He hadn't paid the Masai Mara National Reserve park fees. And he hadn't paid for our return flight from the Mara to Nairobi — the flight we needed to make our international connection home. The night before we were supposed to fly out, he stopped answering his phone. When he finally texted back at midnight, his exact words were: "Sadly I can't manage the payment. I'm very sorry for the let down and will refund the money you have used."
We were left to sort it out ourselves, on our own credit card, at the worst possible time — covering the lodge, the guide, the park fees, and last-minute return transport just to get back to Nairobi in time for our flight. That cost us an extra $7,985 we should never have had to spend, since we'd already paid for all of it.
He admitted in writing that this was his fault and promised a refund. That was in mid-August. Weeks of calls he wouldn't answer and messages he'd occasionally reply to with "working on the refund asap" later, we still haven't seen a shilling of it.
If you're considering this operator or "Dawn In Africa Safaris" for a Kenya trip: don't. A polished itinerary and a friendly WhatsApp manner are not the same as an operator who actually pays the lodges, guides, and park fees he's collected your money for. We were fortunate to be able to absorb the extra cost and still make our flight — you might not be. We've filed a formal complaint with the Kenya Association of Tour Operators and are pursuing repayment, but our honest advice to any other traveler is simple: keep looking.
