点评:FABULOUS experience. From the moment I entered the garden, I felt seen and genuinely welcomed.
The experience began with a walking tour of the gardens with Lena. I learned so much about local tropical plants and spices and got to taste all kinds of leaves along the way. I already knew a fair amount going in, but Lena added so much historical and cultural context that I never would have gotten on my own. It made the whole walk feel immersive instead of just informational.
Lena then brought me over to the cooking school, which is spotless, well organized, and wonderfully air conditioned (a very welcome surprise after walking the gardens!). I made three different recipes that all worked really well together. Chef Lim was fantastic—not just telling us what to do, but explaining why we were doing it and sharing little techniques and shortcuts that I’ll actually remember.
Then I got to sit out on the back patio and enjoy everything I’d made with a fresh glass of nutmeg juice. It was such a peaceful way to end the morning.
Truly, this was the highlight of my trip to Penang and the best cooking class I’ve ever taken.
