点评：Scuba de Oro is a gem of a diving operation in a corner of the Philippines known for its beauty and tranquillity but as yet uninvaded by the tourist hordes. Its diving exists but is quite uncelebrated. To an extent this is justified. Thirty years ago I could find myself taken to some mediocre site, battling the tedium while I regarded the anemones and Nemo in 12 metres of water with jaded eye. Amir, the proprietor of the company, doesn't inflict this disappointment on you. Although he is kind and careful with novice trainees, he is at his best escorting and guiding competent divers on three or four little frequented sites which on the right moon phase can be eye-poppingly good. On paper he is highly qualified and lives up to it in-water (not always the case). His boat is unusually sturdy and comfortable and Allan, the skipper, could give a masterclass picking up divers, while Titing is like a fish on his free dives. Food is freshly cooked and varies daily, with the hot soup a great comfort to those clad in their own ancient 3mm wetsuits. You do spend 25 minutes getting to his quiet mooring but the new road is good, the unspoiled scenery flows past and the time aboard to the sites that much shorter. My Swedish dive buddy, my snorkelling family member, and I had a glorious three days and we will be back. Note - you get what you pay for: this is a first class enterprise and not functioning el cheapo as they say in Cozumel. The gleaming 3ft bottle of medical oxygen clamped to the mast tells you that straightaway. And he is half the price of a godawful cattleboat of C-card trainees in the States. I give this operation full marks.
